James E. Ukrop

Jim UkropA great article about a subject that cannot continue to be ignored or unaddressed. The world is changing rapidly, and if we are to compete successfully in a global economy, we must first redefine our region and then begin behaving like one region in our planning, services, and economic development. This is especially true at a time of diminishing resources.

While our ultimate goal would be to include the entire MSA, I believe that we should start with the cities and counties that are included in the Richmond Regional Planning Commission and the Crater Region.

The question is ‘how do we develop and build the momentum that creates the political will to make this happen?’ What can we learn from other regions that have successfully navigated these waters?
